This painting has been entirely painted on different kinds of recycled material such as lids and wraps, mostly aluminium. The metallic effect allows for more brightness and intensity and almost a new range of colors. It also draws a line to folkloric art and handicraft. I associated this particular range of colors with something outside of the common, something like carnival, masked ball. Italian seemed to be the right language to express this feeling. Ballo in maschera is also an opera by Verdi. The combination of a cheerful and sad note: allegro, triste.
